Conference of Professor Eric Grimson at University Autonoma of Madrid (Spain)

Professor Eric Grimson, Chancellor of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Professor at Faculty of Medicine of Harvard, visited Madrid the 15th and 16th of December. He was guest in several events held in his honour, among them highlighted the conference he gave at the University Autónoma of Madrid (UAM) – member of EdX consortium since March 2014 –.

On 15th of December, Prof. Grimson participated at a breakfast of the Foro España Innova, which was celebrated at Ritz Hotel (Madrid). This event was organised by Nueva Economía Fórum, sponsored by Asisa and institutional collaboration of the Ministry of Research, Development and Innovation. This ceremony was conducted by the Rector of the UAM, Professor José María Sanz.

UNESCO Chair Seminar on "Exploring Educational Space of MOOCs and SPOCs" (2014-06-30)

On Monday June 30, the 2nd UNESCO Chair Seminar will be held at Leganés Campus of Universidad Carlos III of Madrid, with the title "Explorando el espacio educativo de MOOCs y SPOCs".

MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) have drawn the interest in educational technology at a global level, showing what you can achieve when implementing Internet technologies to education. But these same technologies can be used for purposes other than those strictly advocated by MOOCs. An example is SPOCs (Small Private Online Courses), in which the field is private and there are a reduced number of students. In short, the MOOC phenomenon has only just light the flame for many other interesting applications of TICs in education. In this seminar we will explore this ​​educational technology space in which are included MOOCs and SPOCs, analyzing the new opportunities open to us.

eMadrid at IEEE EDUCON 2014

The eMadrid network is present once again with a special session at the EDUCON conference. EDUCON (IEEE Global Engineering Education Conference) will be held this year from April 3 to 5, 2014 in Istanbul (Turkey). The eMadrid special session is entitled "On MOOCs, SPOCs and other online courses" in which members of eMadrid universities participate. Activities around the massive open online courses (MOOCs) are presented in both their original intent,  accessible to everybody, as its restricted version to private environments as SPOCs (Small Private Online Courses).

EMOOCs 2014, the 2nd MOOC European Stakeholders Summit, will take place in Lausanne (Switzerland) from 10 to 12 February 2014. This conference is the main European event about MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses). It will feature four tracks (Policy Track, Experience Track, Research Track, and Business Track) in order to cover the different relevant topics around MOOCs.

eMadrid in the IEEE EDUCON 2013

The fourth edition of the IEEE EDUCON, to be held in Berlin (Germany) from 13 to 15 March 2013, will host this year a new session promoted by the eMadrid Network. The six talks included in this session will be clustered under the title “The Power of Analytics to Engage and Guide: Experiences at the eMadrid Excellence Network”. These conference will be about several aspects of the enforcement of web analytics to online and open education.
