Serious games to scene: The silly lady on the screen

Theater is less and less interested in our young people. The case of classical theater is even worse; The figures presented by the SGAE in its 2012 report on child attendance at representations are alarming. If this decline of interest marks the beginning of a trend, in the medium term the theater seems destined to become a show for minorities. In addition, the current initiatives in the school for theater promotion do not seem to be having much success. However, on the other hand, there are several studies that demonstrate the efficiency of serious games, both to teach how to motivate, in fields as diverse as mathematics, history or the medical field. Here we present the project "Serious Games to scene" that investigates how you can use the viedeojuegos in the teaching and promotion of the classic theater. This approach includes the adaptation of plays to create serious games. This has been applied to the classic "The Lady Boba" for which a game has been created that has subsequently been used as a motivating tool with more than 700 high school students. In addition to the unexpected results obtained, a description of the subsequent analysis will be included, which has led to consider the effect of user profiles of users on learning through educational games.

Author's biography

Borja Manero Iglesias Borja Manero Iglesias holds a degree in Physics from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (1999) and a Diploma in Dramatic Art (2007). He is currently a Collaborating Professor in the Department of Software Engineering and Artificial Intelligence at UCM, where he teaches and researches. His area of research is technology-assisted teaching, and his specific interests focus on theater teaching through video games and simulations, and the evaluation of these tools.
