The International Conference on Learning Analytics and Knowledge (LAK 14) releases a call for articles for its fourth edition, to be held from 24 to 28 May 2014 in the city of Indianapolis (Indiana, USA). The theme this year is "Intersection of learning analytics research, theory and practice". Abelardo Pardo, a former member of the eMadrid Network and currently at The University of Sydney (Australia), is listed as one of the Program Chairs of LAK 14.
Next June 13th, during the celebration of the IV eMadrid Workshop, the eMadrid 2013 Awards will be delivered. In this occasion the winners have been Luis Pablo Prieto (Universidad de Valladolid, UVA), who will receive the award to his Doctoral Thesis, and Silvia Tamayo (URJC), who will receive the prize to the best final master work. Both will have the chance to show their works the second day of the eMadrid Workshop.
The Gradient Lab Group of Telematics Applications and Services (laboratorio Gradient del Grupo de Aplicaciones y Servicios Telemáticos, GAST) from the Carlos III University of Madrid, an eMadrid network partner, and the company Simumak have developed two training simulators. The first one is a tool for the training of entrepreneurs in which the user is immersed in an adventure game during which a mentor will guide you through the process of creating your own business.
The Research Group GICAC-UPM, included in the eMadrid Network, and The OpenCourseWare Consortium (OCWC) has developed a search tool for open educational content. This search engine, called "Serendipity", offers more than 7,000 courses available in open and heterogeneous repositories of higher education institutions worldwide.
During the days between next 17 to 20 September 2013, the fifteenth edition of the International Symposium on Information Technology and Communication in Education (SINTICE) will be held in conjunction with the Spanish Conference on Informatics (CEDI 2013) in Madrid (Spain). This new edition is on the advances in learning technologies and their widespread and practical application from a Web 2.0 sight.
A MOOC (Massive Online Open Course), will start next May 1 on the UNED COMA platform. This course has been created by members of the UNED in eMadrid. Under the title "Basis of Electronics Circuits and practice", this MOOC consists of eight modules and will last five months. The only condition to follow the course is a free registration in the UNED COMA platform.
The research group e-UCM from Complutense University of Madrid, included in the eMadrid Network, has developed a video game that recreates the play La Dama Boba (Lope de Vega) and allows players to play as one of the characters. These actions are included within the project " e-Learning a escena” which main motivation the teaching of classical theater to high school students of the Community of Madrid.
The Science Of Computer Programmign international journal makes a call for papers for the preparation of a special issue entitled Special Issue on Software Development Concerns in the e-Learning Domain. The journal is indexed in the JCR with an impact factor of 0.622 in 2011. The important dates are:
A MOOC (Massive Online Open Course) conducted by members of the UC3M group in eMadrid will begin in the Miriada X platform next Tuesday, January 15th, 2013.The course is entitled "Digital education of the future. It consists of four modules and nine weeks of duration. During this period teachers will review the way in which ICTs are affecting the educational processes. To follow the course it will only be needed a free registration on the Miriada X platform.
The eMadrid network, as part of the call for R&D programs in IT 2009, launches the Call for the eMadrid 2013 Awards. The following categories have been enabled:
- Prize for best doctoral thesis
- Prize for best final degree project or master work.
Three years have passed since the eMadrid Project began, in early 2010. We take this anniversary to review some numbers and data of the work made to date by this research network, coordinated from the UC3M and with UCM, UAM, UPM, URJC and UNED as partners.
The IEEE Transactions on Education international journal makes a call for papers on the occasion of the preparation of a special issue entitled “Original Experiences Using Open Course Ware and OER”. This publication will try to address the role of educators and universities in the future of new educational resources, which are becoming more widely available as well as free and online. The lead guest editor of this special issue will be Oscar Martinez Bonastre, an eMadrid network member. Next to him, will also be part of the editorial team other members of this project, as Edmundo Tovar, Nelson Piedra or Manuel Castro.
The special issue of the IEEE-RITA promoted by eMadrid can already be seen. This issue is titled "Recent Advances in e-Learning Technologies, Challenges and Opportunities" includes five items, which were selected from the 21 contributions received. The special editors of this issue are Carmen Fernandez Baker (UC3M), Gregorio Robles (URJC) and Pilar Sancho (UCM), all members of eMadrid.
The work "Reusable Game Interfaces for People with Disabilities", from the e-UCM group, has been winner of the Student Research Competition organized in the international conference ASSETS 2012, on technologies for accessibility. This research group is part of the eMadrid network.
The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of UNED (Spanish University for Distance Education) in collaboration with the New Media Consortium, the Center for Virtual Education (CSEV) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) – Education Society have created a new report within the popular Horizon Report Project. This report is the first one that forecasts internationally the impact that the new learning technologies will have in techinical education during 2012-2017.
Together with the OSS 2012 conference , the largest annual academic meeting on Free/Libre/Open Source Software of the world, to be held from 10 to 13 September in Tunisia, a specific workshop promoted by the eMadrid network on education with free software, FLOSSedu, will be held. The main topic of the workshop is the long-term sustainability of free software in education.
