Members of eMadrid network of the Carlos III University of Madrid participate in european projects MOOC-Maker and SHEILA of Erasmus + program, which have had their meeting recently startup program. In both projects, the Principal Researcher for the Carlos III University of Madrid is professor Carlos Delgado Kloos, coordinator of the eMadrid network.
During the days from 10 to 13 April will take place EDUCON (IEEE Global Engineering Education Conference) annual congress. This year will be held in Abu Dhabi (UAE) and is entitled "Smart Education in Smart Cities".
Members of the universities eMadrid network participate in a special session called "Designing Educational Material" in which different works that revolve around this common theme will be presented.
The eMadrid Program, who is dedicated to R&D on educational technology in the Region of Madrid and funded by General Directorate of Universities and Research of the Ministry of Education of the Region of Madrid in the context of the call for R & D Programs Technologies 2013, it requests contributions of academic and educational experiences, specially those who can considerate itself as a disruptive (in its broadest sense of the word).
The catchword of the workshop this year is “Unbundling Education”. With this, we want to say that it is taking place many initiatives that, in some way, breaks down the educative package as we know today and It weans of some parameters which take for granted. Such are for higher education: age range (from 18 years), duration of the studies(4 years for a degree), curriculums with little customization, indivisibility of subjects, how they teach, schedules, academic calendar (beginning in September), evaluation, certification(included at the end). What parameter can be flexible? Are there another academic packages more flexible?
During the last week, from the 7th to 11th of March, It was celebrated the Open Education Week, a set of events organized by universities of all over the world whose goal is create awareness about the free and open education opportunities that exists for everybody.
Issues such as the Open Badges were treated at the University of Southampton, as the neediness to obtain recognition for qualities and achievements outside the classroom,
or the Wikipedia project at the Library of the University of Belgrade, Serbia.
In the same way, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid participated the 8th of March with an event called “Libraries and MOOCs: Experiences at Spanish Universities” where universities like UPF, UNED y UC3M collaborated. Some aspects covered such as, the situation of Open Education at their institutions, the need for formal/informal support teams, recognizing the library service in its support role to Open Education projects and the library as a promoter and leader of Open Education.
The eMadrid project took part in this events in 2013 and 2014.
A workshop on FLOSS (Free/Libre and Open Source Software) in education and computational thinking will take place in Gothenburg, Sweden, on June 2nd. The goal of this workshop, which is co-located with the 12th International Conference on Open Source Systems, is to bring together free software experts and educators to discuss challenges that we face in the educational world at present and and that we will face in the future and how they can be undertaken from a FLOSS perspective. The workshop is organized by eMadrid members from Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, and the eMadrid Network is the sponsor of the event.

The eMadrid network, as part of the call for R&D programs in IT 2013, launches the Call for the eMadrid 2016 Awards. The following categories have been enabled:
- Prize for best doctoral thesis
- Prize for best final degree project or master work.
One of eMadrid objectives are educational methodologies, gamification and quality. Thus, pedagogical models, teaching methods and support tools to facilitate the design and implementation of active learning experiences following the principles of constructivism, connectivism and social learning using storytelling techniques, gamification and collaborative learning are explored. These models are applied in hybrid educational scenarios that have a in-person part and a digital part and shall apply in formal and informal learning environments.
One of the eMadrid network objectives are formats and content and services standardization. This goal has a transversal nature, focusing on the analysis of the new specifications and formats that agencies such as IMS Global Learning Consortium or ADLCoLab are currently proposing for standardization of new systems and educational content, which raises the challenge of responding to their increasing technological complexity and need for collection and storage of data and integration of services from different providers.
One of eMadrid goals are open educational resources, free software and open data. The main objective of this transversal activity is to transfer processes of learning and development used in the world of free software and open knowledge, to the remaining project activities, where relevant.
The eleventh European Conference on Technology Enhanced Learning will take place in Lyon, France, in the week September, 13th till 16th, 2016. EC-TEL is one of the most important conferences worldwide on information and communication technologies applied to education. The theme of this year's edition is 'Adaptive and Adaptable Learning'. The conference will explore how research in collaborative and personalized learning can be combined with new developments in analytics, interaction design, mobile and ubiquitous technologies, and visualization techniques, to enhance learning for everyone.
In the last years we have witnessed the increasing use of remote laboratories in education, encompassed by the development of technology enhanced learning from k-12 to higher education. In this context there is a need, on one hand to define and establish a common consensus on the structure and operation of remote laboratories (RL) from learning technologies perspective as open educational resources (OER) independent from LMSs. On the other hand, cloud computing and the concept of XaaS makes meaningful to consider laboratories as another lego piece of an educational resource in the cloud with a focus on potential standardardized information models and protocols as a common basis for instructional interoperability based on search, retrieval, labeling and services for educational purposes.
FICOD, the most prominent event in the digital economy sector in Spain, will host the seminar "The impact of MOOCs in higher education" on 3 December at 1pm. The panel of speakers of the seminar will include major national and international experts on the use of MOOCs in universities, such as Anant Agarwal, edX, Catherine Mongenet, Université Numérique de France, Martín Rodríguez Jugo, IE Business School, Paloma Barba Contera, Telefónica Digital Education, Vicent Botti, Universidad Politécnica de Valencia, and Carlos Delgado Kloos, eMadrid network coordinator.
“Con nosotras It's Time to Hack" project has been promoted by the Department of Women and Equality of the City of Getafe, in collaboration with the municipal company GISA within the European initiative URBAN for La Alhóndiga neighborhood. eMadrid network members will collaborate with the workshops to be held between 27 and 29 November.
The project goal is to raise technological vocations among young women and break the gender digital divide, as well as to make visible the role of women working in or with technology or in technology-based companies.
Jose A. Ruiperez Valiente, researcher at eMadrid network, has received several awards for his Master's Thesis (MT), "Design and Implementation of a Module of Learning Analytics for Khan Academy Platform", which was prepared and presented to complete the Masters degree in Telecommunications Engineering in October 2013 at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M); this university is the eMadrid project coordinator. The supervisor of this work was Pedro J. Muñoz Merino, who is also member of the eMadrid network.
Telspain, the network of professionals of e-learning in Spain, celebrates the third edition of the Telspain Conference with the tittle: "eLearning 2020: companies and universities" next 14 of December in Barcelona. This is a unique oportunity to know, from renowned experts, the tendencies in worldwide institutions of e-learning and analyze the trends that pave the way for e-learning future. Members of the eMadrid Network (UC3M) will participate in the conference.
