eMadrid Members participate in the Development of a Search Engine for Open Educational Resources

The Research Group GICAC-UPM, included in the eMadrid Network, and The OpenCourseWare Consortium (OCWC) has developed a search tool for open educational content. This search engine, called "Serendipity", offers more than 7,000 courses available in open and heterogeneous repositories of higher education institutions worldwide.

"Serendipity" improves interoperability and discovery of courses available in any repository on the web and, unlike other search engines, enables its users to explore in an integrated and incremental way, to dispose of guided navigation from a keyword search, to get more accurate and complete results and to access all data available from any of the courses located.

GICAC-UPM is an eMadrid Network partner and it is formed by researchers from Polytechnic University of Madrid and the Technical University of Loja (Ecuador), in order to help to improve the access, search, sharing and use of open educational materials by emerging web technologies. The OpenCourseWare Consortium (OCWC) is a global community comprised of more than 300 higher education institutions and other organizations.
