On the occasion of the IV eMadrid Workshop, event held last June 13 and 14 at the Leganés Campus of the Carlos III University of Masdrid, a series of interviews was conducted. Participants responded on various aspects related to the central theme of this edition, the MOOCs (Massive Online Open Courses). During the interviews they presented their points of view on the development phase of this kind of courses and their possible evolution.

The University Carlos III of Madrid Master in eLearning Production and Management organizes an online event on "The technological and pedagogical 2020 horizon for education". The International Conference on Learning Analytics and Knowledge (LAK 14) releases a call for articles for its fourth edition, to be held from 24 to 28 May 2014 in the city of Indianapolis (Indiana, USA). The theme this year is "Intersection of learning analytics research, theory and practice". Abelardo Pardo, a former member of the eMadrid Network and currently at The University of Sydney (Australia), is listed as one of the Program Chairs of LAK 14.

Next 14-15 November 2013, eMadrid project members will organize in Salamanca the Fourth Workshop on Software Engineering in e-Learning (ISELEAR'13) in the context of Technological Ecosystems for Enhancing Multiculturality 2013(TEEM 2013).
Next June 13th, during the celebration of the IV eMadrid Workshop, the eMadrid 2013 Awards will be delivered. In this occasion the winners have been Luis Pablo Prieto (Universidad de Valladolid, UVA), who will receive the award to his Doctoral Thesis, and Silvia Tamayo (URJC), who will receive the prize to the best final master work. Both will have the chance to show their works the second day of the eMadrid Workshop.
The Gradient Lab Group of Telematics Applications and Services (laboratorio Gradient del Grupo de Aplicaciones y Servicios Telemáticos, GAST) from the Carlos III University of Madrid, an eMadrid network partner, and the company Simumak have developed two training simulators. The first one is a tool for the training of entrepreneurs in which the user is immersed in an adventure game during which a mentor will guide you through the process of creating your own business.
The Research Group GICAC-UPM, included in the eMadrid Network, and The OpenCourseWare Consortium (OCWC) has developed a search tool for open educational content. This search engine, called "Serendipity", offers more than 7,000 courses available in open and heterogeneous repositories of higher education institutions worldwide.

"The Transformational Effect of Technology over Education"

During the days between next 17 to 20 September 2013, the fifteenth edition of the International Symposium on Information Technology and Communication in Education (SINTICE) will be held in conjunction with the Spanish Conference on Informatics (CEDI 2013) in Madrid (Spain). This new edition is on the advances in learning technologies and their widespread and practical application from a Web 2.0 sight.
A MOOC (Massive Online Open Course), will start next May 1 on the UNED COMA platform. This course has been created by members of the UNED in eMadrid. Under the title "Basis of Electronics Circuits and practice", this MOOC consists of eight modules and will last five months. The only condition to follow the course is a free registration in the UNED COMA platform.

The research group e-UCM from Complutense University of Madrid, included in the eMadrid Network, has developed a video game that recreates the play La Dama Boba (Lope de Vega) and allows players to play as one of the characters. These actions are included within the project " e-Learning a escena” which main motivation the teaching of classical theater to high school students of the Community of Madrid.
The fourth edition of the IEEE EDUCON, to be held in Berlin (Germany) from 13 to 15 March 2013, will host this year a new session promoted by the eMadrid Network. The six talks included in this session will be clustered under the title “The Power of Analytics to Engage and Guide: Experiences at the eMadrid Excellence Network”. These conference will be about several aspects of the enforcement of web analytics to online and open education. This session is held Thursday 4th in the morning and is also a contribution of the eMadrid Network to the Open Education Week 2013. Its complete content can be seen here.
The Science Of Computer Programmign international journal makes a call for papers for the preparation of a special issue entitled Special Issue on Software Development Concerns in the e-Learning Domain. Contribution from eMadrid to the Open Education Week (11-15 March 2013)
The year 2012 has seen the rise of a new kind of online education. Initiatives like the Khan Academy or platforms for MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses), like edX or Coursera, have stricken the education sector like a tsunami. One of the key enabling features of these initiatives is the use of a fine-grained analytics to provide a much better learning experience. In this session, several experiences carried out by members of the eMadrid network are presented that are related to learning analytics.
