Welcome to eMadrid

The eMadrid Network is a project funded by the Government of the Region of Madrid, which promotes research and development of technologies to support learning (Technology-Enhanced Learning). Coordinated by the University Carlos III of Madrid, it has as partners the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Universidad Rey Juan Carlos and UNED, having other universities and companies as associated entities.

  • Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (coordinator)

    Carlos Delgado KloosCarlos Delgado Kloos received a PhD degree in Computer Science from the Technische Universität München and a PhD degree in Telecommunications Engineering from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. He is currently Full Professor of Telematics Engineering at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Director of the Erasmus Mundus Master's Programme on "Network and eBusiness Centred Computing", Director of the on-line Master Máster online en "Gestión y Producción en e-Learning", Director of the Nokia Chair at his university and Coordinator of the eMadrid network. Additionally, he is Associate Vice-Chancellor of International Relations. His main research interest focuses on Technology-Enhanced Learning.


    Abelardo Pardo, UC3MAbelardo Pardo is an Associate Professor of Telematics Engineering at the Carlos III University of Madrid. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Colorado at Boulder. His research interests are in the area of computer-supported collaborative learning, adaptive hypermedia and multimedia content creation. He is member of the .LRN community where he participated in the implementation of the Learning Design support within the platform. He has also participated in several international research projects and is the principal investigator of the Flexo project on adaptive elearning platforms.

    Manuel Alfonseca, UAMManuel Alfonseca is a doctor in Electronics Engineering (1972) and Computer Scientist (1976), both degrees obtained at the Universidad Politecnica of Madrid. He teaches and does research at the Department of Computer Science of the Universidad Autonoma of Madrid, where he was director of the Higher Polytechnical School (2001-2004). Previously, he was Senior Technical Staff Member at the IBM Madrid Scientific Center, where he worked from 1972 to 1994. He is a member of the Spanish Association of Scientific Journalism and has published over 200 papers and books on computer science, popular science and juvenile literature, with different awards in these fields.

    Baltasar Fernández-Manjón, UCMBaltasar Fernández-Manjón is associate professor in the Department of Software Engineering and Artificial Intelligence (DISIA) at the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM). He received Bachelor in Physics (major in Computer Science) and a PhD in Physics from the UCM. He is IEEE senior member, member of the IFIP Working Group 3.3 "Research on the Educational uses of Communication and Information Tecnlogies") and of the Spanish Technical Committee for E-learning Standarization (AENOR CTN71/SC36). He leads the Complutense e-learning research group <e-UCM> (www.e-ucm.es). His main research interests are e-learning technologies, educational uses of serious games, application of educational standards and user modelling.

    Manuel Castro, UNEDManuel Castro, Electrical and Computer Engineering educator in the Spanish University for Distance Education (UNED) has a doctoral industrial engineering degree from the ETSII/UPM. Professor of Electronics Technology inside the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. Is co-chair of the conference FIE 2014 (Frontiers in Education Conference) to be organized in Madrid, Spain, by the IEEE and the ASEE. He is Fellow member of IEEE and member of the Administration Committee (AdCOM) (2005–2010) of the IEEE Education Society and Chair of the IEEE Spain Section (2010-2011). He has been awarded with the 2009 Edwin C. Jones, Jr. Meritorious Service Award of the IEEE Education Society

    Jesús M. González Barahona, URJCJesus M. Gonzalez-Barahona received a PhD in Telecommunications Engineering from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. Currently he is associate professor in the Department of Telematics and Computing of the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, where he is also head of department. He is also director of the master's program on free software and founding member of the GSyC/LibreSoft research group targeted at several aspects of the research on free software and communities of creation and innovation, both in URJC. His main research area is free software development.
