The e-Adventure game repository has been updated with six new titles now available for the community in the public repository.
On the one hand, there are four new games developed in collaboration with CATEDU. Three of them are part of a development line of situational games for English teaching previously started by this organization. In addition, they also created a first aid game in collaboration with two expert trainers from the Emergency Department at the Hospital Miguel Servet in Zaragoza. This is the description of the games:
The Department of Electric, Electronic and Control Engineering of the UNED, which is a participant in the eMadrid Network, keeps on analyzing this year which will be the technologies that the educational community consider most important for the nearer future. Many and very interesting answers were got last year at an international level. On the whole, more than 2,600 votes around the World; this has encouraged the department to make a Web 2.0 analysis.
Israel Gutiérrez and Derick Leony have obtained the first and the second place in the first round of the 3rd ROLE Widget Enchantment Competition with their own widgets, called classON Questions and Learning Resources Affective Recommender. Both of them are members of the UC3M Group in the eMadrid Network.
Next 29-31 October 2012, eMadrid project members will be held in Andorra the Third Workshop on Software Engineering in e-Learning (ISELEAR'12) in the context of XIV Simposio Internacional de Informática Educativa (SIIE 2012).
Members of Francisco de Paula Santander University, in Cúcuta, Colombia, have developed 8 eAdventure games for English language teaching for kids between 6 and 10 years old. The games focus on different aspects ranging from vocabulary (numbers, colors, etc.), grammar, verb tense or common expressions and contextualized learning.
It is no exaggeration to speak of "revolution" in the field of e-Learning technologies in recent years. Of the early e-Learning systems, used primarily as repositories of content, with little chance of interaction-based educational paradigms and behavioral objectivists (teacher-centered), to current applications, there has been a giant leap.
The eMadrid network, as part of the call for R&D programs in IT 2009, launches the Call for the eMadrid 2012 Awards. The following categories have been enabled:
- Prize for best doctoral thesis - Prize for best final degree project or master work.
The research group GSyC/LibreSoft of the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, and eMadrid network member, was recently awarded with the III Focus Free Knowledge Initiative Prize, in the category "University Initiative in favor of Free Knowledge". The voting of the prize involved more than 10,000 participants. The GSyC/LibreSoft research group is composed of three professors and a dozen full-time researchers, and works primarily on open collaboration in various areas such as software engineering, mobile technologies, virtual communities and e-Learning.
Last January 18th, the UNED reserved spot in Radio 3 of Spain National Radio included a chapter dedicated to make a presentation of the eMadrid Network. The program had a debate format and it was moderated by Miguel Rodríguez Artacho, UNED responsible at eMadid. Other participants were Carlos Delgado Kloos, the project coordinator, Jesús M.González-Barahona, URJC responsible at eMadrid, and Ivan Martínez Ortiz, a member of the UCM group at eMadrid.
The work: "Using educative-games authoring platforms and 2D simulation for developing screen-based narutalistic neuropsychological assessments" will be presented in the LXVI Chilean Congress of Neurology, Psychiatry and Neurosurgery, taking place in Pucón (Chile) on November 9-12th, 2011.
Following the initiatives started in the recent workshops on Software Engineering for eLearning (ISELEAR), which took place in Valencia (2010) and Madrid (2011), e-Madrid members going to edit an special collection of scientific papers in the aforementioned topic of Software Engineering for e-Learning. This special collection will be published in the JCR-indexed journal of Research and Practice in Information Technology.
e-Adventure is an educational game creation tool that does not require any programming skills to develop educational adventure games. In the last few months, the research community in serious games has paid a lot of attention to its latest releases, and it is being downloaded about 1000 times per month. In order to support its growing user community, the e-Adventure website is presenting its new game repository, to allow users to see as many examples as possible.
Teachers Rosario Gil, Manuel Castro, Gabriel Diaz, Elio San Cristobal and Sergio Martin, from the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED) and eMadrid network members, were awarded last May with the prize for best article in the FINTDI 2011 Congress (Fomento e Innovación con Nuevas Tecnologías en la Docencia de la Ingeniería) for the text entitled "Verification System for Fngerprint Tests in Moodle".
Series of interviews made at the II eMadid Workshop, held last June 1 and 2 at the UNED Psychology Faculty (Ciudad Universitaria, Madrid). The participants talk about various aspects related to the subject of this year, the Mobile Learning, its present and future and the changes that it has introduced into the learning process.
The European chapter (iED Europe) of the Immersive Education Initiative has been presented last May 13 during the iED Summit held in the city of Boston (USA). The Board Of Governors of this chapter was also defined. It’s led by Michael Gardener, Director of the Digital Lifestyles Centre, University of Essex, UK, and the other six members are international experts in the field of immersive education, including Delgado Kloos, eMadrid coordinator.
A conference organized by the training and technology outreach program called Cibernàrium, in collaboration with the Learn3 project, will be held in Barcelona next June 30. Its title is "Learning 3.0: new technological advances in education challenges" and it will analyze the situation of "educational opportunities and challenges" in the new contexts created by technological advances. Carlos Delgado Kloos, eMadrid coordinator, will be one of the participants.
Next Tuesday, 21st June, the 4th edition of The Online Master in Management and Production in E-learning will be presented. This Master is developed by the University Carlos III of Madrid and the Institute of Online Learning, with the collaboration of the eMadrid network. The event will have place from 18:00 to 21:00 hrs at the Video 3.1.S08 Room, at the Pastor King Building (Library Building) of the Leganes Campus (UC3M).
Last Wednesday June 1st, 2011, during the II eMadrid Workshop held at the Psichology Faculty-UNED (Madrid), the eMadrid 2011 Awards were delivered. The winner of the ATOS-Origin award for best doctoral thesis was to Sergio Martin (UNED), and Jorge Fernández (URJC) was awarded in duplicate, to receive the MadridOnRails prize for best work or free software development related to education and the ATOS-Origin Award for best final degree project . Awards were delivered by Rafael San Miguel, CEO of Madrid On Rails, ando Lydia Montagon, Area Manager of Atos Origin. Winners presented their work on the second day of the event, June 2.
The town of Villablino (León) will host the Carlos III University Summer School between July 11 to 22. Among the various offers of education, there is one entitled "Exploring new realities: Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality, "directed by Carlos Delgado Kloos and taught by members of the eMadrid Network.
Next September 16th, eMadrid project members will be held the second Workshop on Software Engineering in elearning (ISELEAR'11) at the Faculty of Informatics, University Complutense of Madrid. This new edition maintains the goals set for the first successful edition of the workshop, ISELEAR10: to bring together researchers and software development experts in the field of e-Learning to present, compare and discuss the latest trends in the conception, design, development, deployment and maintenance of eLearning systems.

Libresoft Gymkhana 1.0 has been released in Android Market. It’s an Android application to organize and participate in gymkhanas, funny clue games that can be played outdoor or in groups. The use of technologies included on smartphones allows Libresoft to include new experiences in the traditional gymkhanas, like photo capture, geolocalization or augmented reality.
The Institute of Culture and Technology (ICyT) is a research center of the Carlos III University of Madrid created established in 1993. It aims the transdisciplinar study of cultural changes produced by technology, especially information technology and communication. On 16 December 2010 the ICYT presented some of its ongoing projects in a cycle of conferences organized by the Center For Media Art And Education In New Technologies (Media Art) at CaixaForum Madrid. Previously there had been presentations of the Rey Juan Carlos University and Complutense University of Madrid projects.

To celebrate the fifth European Conference on Technology-Enhanced Learning (ECTEL 2010), eMadrid network members had the opportunity to know the status of research in the area of e-learning in Spain, by series of presentations which addressed some of the most important issues in the field of e-learning at present, and concluded with a panel session in which they tried to envision the future of e-learning in the coming years.
STELLAR, Sustaining Technology Enhanced Learning at a LARge scale, is an EU project that represents the effort of leading institutions and projects in European Technology-Enhanced Learning (TEL) to unify the diverse community.

Series of interviews with participants in the 1st eMadrid Workshop that were held on June 30 and July 1 2010 in Leganés campus of the University Carlos III of Madrid.
In them, the speakers (which are the leaders of the research community involving universities and companies located in Madrid), presented their ideas on various topics, such as the changes introduced in the future e-learning (or learning supported by technology) in the learning process, the advantages and disadvantages of e-learning, its influence in the field of scientific research and the introduction of the network eMadrid and objectives of the conference.
Education will change dramatically in the next 10 or 15 years. That's one of the main conclusions reached in the framework of the 1st eMadrid Workshop held for two days at the University Carlos III of Madrid (UC3M) to address research and development of technologies for e-learning the Community of Madrid.
This gathering of major public and private sector was inaugurated last June 30 by the Deputy Director General for Research Directorate-General for Universities and Research of the Community of Madrid, Jorge Sainz, together with the presence of Vice President for Research UC3M, Carlos Balaguer, and eMadrid network coordinator, Carlos Delgado Kloos, Professor of Telematics Engineering of the University of Madrid.
A call for papers has been announced for a special issue of IJTEL (International Journal of Technology-Enhanced Learning) about Learning in 3D. The issue seeks to bring together research from different perspectives on a range of 3D technologies that may be used to enhance or support learning.

The objective is to foster the research and development in the context of e-learning within the Government Region of Madrid. The project intends to achieve a rationalization of the research efforts in e-learning, integrating in the group educative technologists and experts in education through CT whose participation will allow to complement the technological capacity of the different teams and generate important synergies. It also pretends to be a showcase of the most important developments in e-learning, with the objective of making this field more dynamic. Finally, a special mention is deserved by the transferral of technology to the companies and the synergy among our research and the necessities of the productive collaboration.

In the framework of the Telematics Engineering Conference , will hold a Day of Educational Innovation in Telematic Engineering , on September 30. 2010 in Valladolid. Day have a place in all work and experiences that relate to innovation in the teaching of disciplines related to telematics, either in content or in terms of teaching methodology and evaluation, as well as all work and experiences relating to the use of electronic means in support of university teaching.
