The European chapter (iED Europe) of the Immersive Education Initiative has been presented last May 13 during the iED Summit held in the city of Boston (USA). The Board Of Governors of this chapter was also defined. It’s led by Michael Gardener, Director of the Digital Lifestyles Centre, University of Essex, UK, and the other six members are international experts in the field of immersive education, including Delgado Kloos, eMadrid coordinator.
Immersive Education, a Media Grid initiative, “is an award-winning learning platform that combines interactive 3D graphics, commercial game and simulation technology, virtual reality, voice chat, Web cameras (webcams) and rich digital media with collaborative online course environments and classrooms. Immersive Education gives participants a sense of "being there" even when attending a class or training session in person isn't possible, practical, or desirable, which in turn provides educators and students with the ability to connect and communicate in a way that greatly enhances the learning experience.”
Immersive Education Initiative is an international collaboration off universities, colleges, research institutes, consortia and companies. The european chapter of this initiative has planned to hold its first congress in late 2011 at Madrid (Spain). Click here for further information about the project. |
