Summary
The Reception Hall is a meeting place for first contact of newly arrived students from other linguistic and cultural fields to a Catalan school. This is a temporary action (from a quarter to two academic years), which are individualized curriculum adaptations. The aim is for students to be minimally competent in the Catalan language (lingua franca) and will shortly be incorporated into the mainstream setting.
The particularities of the Reception Hall makes it clear candidate to carry out pilot projects for implementing new technologies. In the IES Ernest Lluch have used all kinds of Web 2.0 resources, online activities XTEC, using a classroom blog , using social networks (twitter, IM).
Since 2006, the @ Espurn Projecte has assembled a group of school teachers in Catalonia to form and share resources, methodologies and experiences on the use of new technologies in the classroom. As telecollaboration media group have been used primarily web espurna.cat , the social network Ning , wikis on specific topics and headquarters in Second Life, where there are regular meetings, courses, etc.. between the teachers involved.
As an extension of this work with other teachers in Second Life, since 2009 and after a brief experience with the 3D environment "Lively" in Google, in the IES Ernest Lluch we are introducing the use of virtual worlds with the students by Opensim platform within Vleaf project at the Autonomous University of Madrid.
