This was the second conference organized by the IEEE after the one held in 2010 in Madrid. Thus, as described on its website, it has tried to be “an interdisciplinary forum for academic, research and industrial collaboration in engineering education by presenting newest research results and practical show cases". Also, the objective of this conference is quoted "to bridge the gap between pure academic research and real world experiences". The theme of this IEEE EDUCON 2011 has been "Learning Environments and Ecosystems in Engineering Education".
During this conference two eMadrid Project members, Manuel Castro (Distance Learning University) and Edmundo Tovar (Polytechnic University of Madrid) received awards for their work and dedication.
